KMS is governed by a Board of Trustees composed of parents, community representatives, and members of the staff. Parents make up a majority of the Board. They and the community representatives are elected to three-year terms at a parent meeting at the beginning of each school year. The Board determines the policy of the school. The Director serves on the Board and is responsible for implementing its policies, hiring staff, and supervising the program of instruction.

Board Mission Statement: The Board of Knoxville Montessori School is responsible for providing the long term vision of the school, institutional stability and the cohesiveness of the school as a Montessori community by being good fiscal managers and creating new revenue streams, providing direction to the administration, facilitating parent involvement and advocating for student retention in order to fulfill the mission of the school.
