Primary I Assistant Job Announcement

The Knoxville Montessori School is seeking an Assistant to work in our multi-age Primary I classroom, supporting and assisting the Senior Primary I Teacher and the Primary I Teacher.

The Primary I class is one of two Primary classes at KMS. It includes a maximum of twenty-two students from 3-5 years old.

The Primary I Assistant's duties include staffing before-school care, organizing and maintaining Montessori materials, cleaning the classroom, supervising playground activities, assisting students with snacks and lunch, helping in the nap room, correcting inappropriate behavior, and encouraging and guiding students' academic progress. The Assistant may teach some lessons at the direction of the teachers, but his/her primary responsibility is to support the teachers by maintaining the classroom and helping students.

The Primary I Assistant works closely with and reports to the Senior Primary I Teacher and the Primary I Teacher. S/he also works as part of a team with the Senior Teacher and Assistant in the Primary II classroom and with other members of the KMS staff.

Requirements: Classroom experience and familiarity with Montessori education preferred. Associates or bachelors degree also preferred.

Hours and Compensation: This is a full-time job beginning in August 2012 and continuing through May 2013. The Primary I Assistant works 7.75 hours per day, from 7:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Compensation is $10.00-$12.00 per hour, depending on skills and experience.
