Earth Hour and Energy-Saving tips Print E-mail

On Saturday, March 27, 2010, at 8:30 p.m. local time, people all around the world are taking part in Earth Hour — an event led by World Wildlife Fund.  During Earth Hour millions of people around the world will unite by turning out their lights for one hour to make a bold statement of concern about our planet and climate change. Ms. Jurisson has this list of things we all can do to continue being environmentally aware past Earth Hour:

  • Turn out the lights, computer and T.V. when you leave a room.
  •  Change all your lights to compact fluorescent light bulbs.
  •  Ask your power company if they offer clean or green energy.
  •  Save and plant trees.  Reduce, reuse and recycle paper.
  •  Use a timer to help you take a shorter shower.
  •  Use a fan on warm days and use less air conditioning.
  • Wash laundry in cold water.  Air dry your clothes if possible (remember the smell of line dried clothes?)
  • Only run the dishwasher when it is full

Use your imagination. You and your family can come up with some other ideas that will make a difference.  Why don't you post your ideas in the comments for others to read?  We all can make an impact.  Have fun with it and join the rest of the world on Saturday, March 27th at 8:30 p.m.   We can hardly wait to hear how many KMS families participate!
