Welcome to the Knoxville Montessori School

Preparing Children for the World!

"The first duty  Knoxville Montessori School
of an education
is to stir up life,
but leave it free
to develop."

~ Maria Montessori

The Knoxville Montessori School (KMS) is a non-profit private school centrally located on Kingston Pike in Knoxville, TN. We offer preschool, kindergarten, and elementary education up to the fifth grade based on the educational method developed by Dr. Maria Montessori.

Since its founding in 1966, KMS has provided a supportive instructional environment for families interested in an alternative to public education.

We hope you find this site helpful.
  • If you are new to KMS or to Montessori, we hope you will visit the About KMSAdmissionsClasses & Curriculum, and Montessori Education sections of the site for information about our school and our educational approach.

  • If you are currently a member of the KMS community, we hope you will check out the KMS Community Blog and the Photo Gallery. We hope parents will use these tools to stay in touch with what is happening at the school and to share ideas about how we can work together to better serve our students and their families. Contact the school at kms(at)knoxvillemontessori.org to get a username and password for the Photo Gallery.

  • If you are an alumnus/alumna of KMS, please check out our Community Blog and use our Alumni Feedback Form to send us your favorite story about your time at the school. Your stories will help us document the history of the school in preparation for its 50th anniversary in 2016, and with your permission we will share them (anonymously if you prefer) on this site and in our other materials.
Finally, whether you and your family are already part of the KMS community or are just learning about our school, we'd be glad to provide any additional information you might need. Just contact our Director, Charlie Biggs, at the address, phone number, or e-mail address above.
