Skylar Martin
Primary Support Staff
Skylar grew up right here in Knoxville, Tennessee, and is proud to be supporting young learners in the community that raised her. She holds a bachelor’s degree in English from Elon University and is currently pursuing her MFA in Creative Writing from Sewanee University.
With a strong foundation in communication, close reading, and creative expression, Skylar brings a love of language and storytelling into the classroom. Inspired by Dr. Rudine Sims Bishop’s philosophy of literature as mirrors, windows, and sliding glass doors, Skylar believes in the transformative power of stories to connect us to ourselves and to the wider human experience.
Skylar enjoys reading, especially fantasy stories like The Lord of the Rings, as well as hiking, birdwatching, playing board games, and attending Renaissance Fairs. She splits her time between her mom’s home in Halls and her dad’s in Strawberry Plains. Her family includes two beloved cats: Little Kitty and Butterball.
Skylar is committed to creating a warm, imaginative, and inclusive environment where children feel seen, supported, and free to be curious.
